AI Keyboard Privacy: What Differs Between Charmingo on iPhone and Android

Understand on-device versus cloud processing before sharing a message or screenshot with an AI writing assistant.

The platform matters

An AI keyboard can process text that contains private information. Before using one, understand which content you provide, where generation happens, and whether a request needs a network connection. Features with similar names can have different architectures.

Charmingo uses Apple on-device models for supported iPhone requests. Its Android app sends submitted text and screenshots to Charmingo’s service and Google Gemini for cloud generation. Android content therefore does not stay solely on the device.

Minimize the context you submit

  • Remove phone numbers, addresses, account details, and unrelated messages.
  • Include only the part of a conversation needed to understand the reply.
  • Do not submit workplace or client information without permission.
  • Avoid sharing sensitive health, legal, financial, or identity information.
  • Use a made-up example when you only need help with tone.

Keyboard permissions are a separate decision

Read the operating system’s keyboard notice and review the settings available on your device. A permission notice describes possible access, not a guarantee about a provider’s data handling. Use the app’s privacy policy to understand actual processing.

The host app controls which fields support third-party keyboards and which text is available. Charmingo does not need your entire chat history for a focused reply. You remain in control of what you submit and send.

Cloud-provider terms still matter

Cloud AI providers may handle submitted content and operational logs under their own service terms and configuration. Do not assume that a general claim such as “private AI” means zero retention or zero third-party processing. Charmingo’s privacy policy links to the applicable Gemini API terms.

For a privacy or deletion request involving Charmingo’s service, contact support@charmingo.app. Describe the concern without attaching a full private conversation unless it is necessary.

Review the output too

Privacy is one part of responsible use. Check whether a generated draft reveals information you meant to keep private, invents a fact, or makes a commitment you did not intend. Edit it before copying or inserting it into another app.
